Abstract

Green practices have emerged as essential pathways toward achieving sustainable and climate-resilient development in response to the growing challenges of climate change, environmental degradation, and resource depletion. Green living, also known as sustainable living, encourages individuals and communities to minimize their ecological footprint by adopting environmentally responsible behaviors and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The transition from fossil fuel-based energy systems to renewable and clean energy sources, such as solar power, electric vehicles, and hydrogen fuel-cell technologies, plays a crucial role in mitigating global warming and promoting environmental sustainability. Solar lighting systems, in particular, provide an affordable, low-maintenance, and renewable alternative for meeting energy needs while reducing dependence on conventional electricity. Uttarakhand, popularly known as Devbhumi or the "Land of the Gods," offers a unique model for implementing green practices due to its rich biodiversity, pristine rivers, dense forests, and fragile Himalayan ecosystem. The state's natural landscape makes it particularly suitable for promoting sustainable lifestyles that integrate traditional ecological knowledge with modern green technologies. Eco-friendly initiatives such as eco-villages, organic farming, farm stays, homestays, eco-tourism, and community-based conservation contribute significantly to environmental protection while supporting local livelihoods. Traditional construction materials, including stone, bamboo, and mud, are increasingly being used to reduce the environmental impact of infrastructure development and to enhance resilience in mountainous regions. Furthermore, rainwater harvesting, greywater recycling, solar-powered energy systems, and sustainable waste management practices strengthen resource efficiency and climate resilience. This paper highlights the importance of green practices in fostering sustainable development and examines how environmentally responsible lifestyles can reduce physical waste, conserve natural resources, improve energy efficiency, and encourage sustainable transportation. It also emphasizes the role of community participation, renewable energy adoption, and eco-tourism initiatives, including Eco Park Dhanaulti, in achieving long-term ecological balance. The study concludes that integrating green practices into everyday life is essential for ensuring environmental conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable socio-economic development for present and future generations.
